Camila Rivera-Morales

“We wait. We want. We seek. We act. We experience a complex range of emotions as we attempt to find truth and balance in ourselves and in the world. We place ourselves under the microscope of our own reasoning and combine action and creative innovation to generate elaborate layers of meaning that allow us to find and communicate this “truth”".

I believe art is critical to the production and continuance of culture, and it subsists and retains value on its ability to change, and enable change. While rooted in the personal, it is important to me that my work embody a transfigurative quality. I work toward creating new perspectives, un-seen or forgotten paths of relating information. I want my art to ensue hope, not in its ability to be beautiful or by alluding that what we see wrong in our surroundings can be remedied, but by giving us the option for something more… something else.”

Spotlight on Art

M. Gasby Brown

I started to paint.

My season of artistic creativity took hold of me by surprise, so I started to paint.

Without anyone's permission, I started to paint.

Gasby Brown began to paint in July of 2002.

Entirely self-taught and inspired by visions, dreams and ideas, Gasby has become a prolific artist, painting over 200 pieces, capturing a variety of genres including abstract, realism and expressionism extracted from her life experiences and world view. Gasby draws particular inspiration from art greats William Tolliver, Annie Lee and Jacob Lawrence and has established her own signature painting style with the mixed media works of her "Praise" and "Celebration" series.

"For several months, I had a recurring dream about painting trees and other objects. Even when I was awake, the images of painting were vivid and continued to haunt me." Gasby recalls. She made the courageous decision to align the vision with reality and started her painting journey. Her first painting was, indeed, a tree.

Television Correspondent for BET & FOX. Nationally known Fundraising Executive. Wife. Mother. Christian. Professor. Harvard Graduate. MIT Trained Communications Expert. These are a few of M. Gasby Brown's accomplishments. Now add self-taught VISUAL ARTIST.
