Women of Courage Series

This series by fine artist Elnora Wilson is in support of the ongoing struggle by women and those who know and love them in the battle against breast cancer.

The “Women of Courage” series began with the mixed media creation of “Lady Warrior” which is a tribute to more than 3,000 years of women rulers, and warriors---from Amazon warriors to Mesopotamian moon goddesses, the heroic Queen Esther and those women who have and who continue to serve in today’s armed forces. 

Lady Warrior’s meaning and dedication expanded to include life’s battles and obstacles that women face in everyday life. --- single parenthood, abuse, joblessness, homelessness, the war on breast cancer and other catastrophic illnesses ---and the inner spirituality that is needed to cope, to overcome and to move forward.  Through it all, these “Women of Courage” remember the importance of keeping the faith, of maintaining a sense of humor and of carving out just a little piece of time each day for self.  “Women of Courage” are vivid reminders of the strength of women and the courage to remain strong and focused---for ourselves as well as for our families.
