Photography has been a part of my life from my earliest formed memories. My father, an avid amateur photographer, provided my greatest inspiration growing up. Photography surrounded me. Among my neighbors there was even included a National Geographic photographer. By my early twenties I was refining my technical skills and doing commercial product photography. More recently however, I have been creating my own style of fine art photography.
Using High Dynamic Range (HDR) photographic techniques allows me to create photographs with stunning detail and depth. The technique involves capturing a scene with multiple exposures, going from very dark to very bright. These images are then combined so that only areas with the best exposures are used from each image. This produces a final image that no film or digital camera can capture in a single exposure, and one that more closely represents the dynamic range of the human eye…lending an almost “painting” like quality. Photographing everyday, even mundane places, and creating images that show their unseen beauty is a reflection of my own positive outlook and view of life. I choose subjects that have lots of character and detail, often shooting at night with wide-angle lenses to produce exaggerated perspectives—while the use of HDR brings out all the subtle details and color, producing my signature look. |
